Green computing is can generally be defined as the use of low-energy computing appliances, the re-use or re-purposing of existing equipment, and the planning forethought to engineer systems that are sustainable over the long term. The advantages to green computing are many and include energy savings, smaller budgets for hardware, and less overall HVAC costs. |
Why should schools consider Open Source Software? |
Schools can not only save money using Open Source Software, but can.also freely distribute software to students and parents to use on their home computers. This allows schools to standardize on document formats, forms, and presentation masters with no additional cost. The overal savings for schols and parents can easily climb into the tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars. |
